Rosmarie Waldrop's A Key into the Language of America (New Directions, 1994), from Roger Williams’s A Key into the Language of America (1643).

"It was after moving to Rhode Island that I tried to find out something about the local tribe, the Narragansetts. And found Roger Williams’ book, A Key Into the Language of America—from which everything followed. But of course I bring my past and cultural heritage with me into my reading," Waldrop explains here.

Excerpts here, some discussion here, here, here, and here; listen to Waldrop reading from the book here.
